Himmense

Context

Himmense is a direct-to-consumer supplement brand that offers an all-in-one solution to the pressures surrounding looking good and feeling good in the modern world. Each daily shot they deliver is jam-packed with “all the stuff you need, and nothing you don’t”– vitamins and minerals with countless health and wellness benefits. The star of the show being collagen, which is one of the major building blocks of the human body.

One of the most important considerations in this brand creation project was to strike a balance between science and lifestyle. Himmense wanted to create a community around their product and needed a slick look – based in the truth of their product – that its masculine target audience could rally around. This is a brand thats all about health and activating as much of it as possible, and what could possibly stand for both of those qualities better than the + symbol? How about two of them.

This is a product that’s rooted in tried and tested science, however basing a visual identity in scientific tropes can sometimes lead to a brand that feels cold and medicinal. Instead we leaned into the visual language of science fiction – which shares a lot of the same semiotics, but overall feels much more exciting, energising and effortlessly cool. The metaphor that ‘the human body is a machine waiting to be activated’, is one that guided a lot of the design decision making.

The idea that this product contains “the building blocks of the modern man” is another theme that runs throughout this brand. The distinctive ++ symbol, that appears to be made of these very blocks, works in a multitude of ways to convey this message: it influences typography; acts as an ingredient-listing bullet point; and tessellates seamlessly into patterns, symbolising the potential that lies in building-up levels of collagen over time.
